Puppy Teething: Relief Options to Survive the Teething Phase

Having a new adorable puppy in the house is quite exciting and fun. Taking care of them requires a lot of work, love, and patience. Especially during their teething period, baby teeth will fall out and new adult teeth will push their way through. This process can be painful and very uncomfortable for your puppy. This little pooch will find ways to relieve their teething discomfort by chewing on absolutely everything in sight.

Here are a few common relief options to help make teething a less miserable experience for your little guy:

1.Chew toys

Giving your pet one or two chew toys at a time will help a lot in minimizing the teething discomfort he’s going through. The best toys to offer are made of hard nylon or hard rubber material. This way, your pup can be encouraged to focus on the toy instead of the other items around the house.

2. Cold chews

Some pups like ice cubes, so load up a bowl and let him have at it.toys or frozen carrots for sore gums. There are commercial toys for dogs that are designed to be frozen. The coldness can greatly help in soothing the aching gums and teeth of your pup. Frozen carrots can also be great for a teething puppy as they contain nutrients that are great for their health.

3. Ice Cubes

Some pooches have no problem chewing on ice cubes to relieve their teething discomfort. Now, if your pet does not appear to be interested in chewing on plain ice cubes, try freezing beef or chicken broth as a substitute.  You may also try dropping a few ice cubes in his food bowl when he is experiencing intense chewing needs.

Tips

When your furry little pet is teething, it is advisable that you do your part to lessen the tempting chewing opportunities at home. If you see your pup going after shoes, the couch or carpet simply replace the object that should not be chewed with a chew toy to teach your pup what is okay to gnaw on and what is off limits.  Move those things set in your pup’s eye level to higher ground. Don’t worry and be patient, your dog will eventually grow out of this crazy phase!
